I must be honest but I’m not the biggest fan of hot chocolate, and now you’re probably wondering why on earth am I posting a hot chocolate recipe?! However, every so often I really fancy a hot chocolate on a cold evening so I was experimenting the other evening with flavours and came up with this little beauty.
If you have had a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, then drinking this hot chocolate reminds me of one of those, which I’m very happy about since I can’t have chocolate oranges anymore!
I use quite a bit of orange peel in this recipe but if you’re not a big orange fan then I’d scale back and remove the orange peel before serving. I find if you leave the peel in whilst drinking the hot chocolate the flavour gets more intense.
Serves 1
Ingredients
-1 mug of dairy free milk – I use almond milk but any kind would work
-1 tsp. cacao powder
-1/2 tsp. honey or maple syrup
-1/4 to 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
-peel from half a small orange
How To Make
Place all the ingredients in a pan and place over a medium heat, stirring often.
Once the contents are hot (do not boil) pour into a mug. You can remove the orange peel at this stage if you prefer but I like to keep it in the hot chocolate to get a proper orange burst of flavour whilst I’m drinking it.
You can top with a cinnamon stick and finely grated orange zest sprinkled over the top before serving.
Enjoy 🙂
Oh I am going to have to give this a try.
I hope you enjoy it if you do!
